In this lecture, Dr. Adam Whaley-Connell will discuss case examples regarding hypertension.
Goals & Objectives:
· Identify barriers in the treatment of hypertension in the primary care setting.
· Diagram the main differences in JNC8 as compared to prior guidelines.
· Identify indications for the workup of secondary causes of hypertension.
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of .5 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

Grievance Policy:

If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, then they can then submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Dr. Whaley-Connell is the Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development and a staff physician at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. He is also Professor of Medicine in the division of nephrology and hypertension at the University of Missouri Columbia School of Medicine. Dr. Whaley-Connell earned his DO degree at KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine and then completed his residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia in internal medicine where he was chief resident. He then completed a nephrology fellowship at the University of Missouri.
